First established in 1983 as the Institutional Residency Review Committee, the GMEC (since 1990) functions as the oversight committee for the School’s Graduate Medical Education Programs (residency, subspecialty, and fellowship programs).
¬Membership: The Committee shall consist of at least ten (10) voting members of the faculty with varying terms (Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Neurology and Psychiatry, Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Surgery each recommend for one standing member for a three year term; Pathology, Radiology, Neurosurgery, and Anesthesiology together recommend for one (1) standing member for a two year term; as do Otolaryngology and Orthopaedic Surgery, and Dermatology and Ophthalmology; and two (2) or more at large members drawn from the faculty); four (4) resident (voting) members recommended by the Residents’ Association; and the Associate Dean for Graduate Medical Education (voting), who shall Chair the Committee.
