This summer, the Saint Louis University community will walk all the way to Spain. Not literally, of course. But with the Walk to Madrid program, you can be a part of a team effort to take a virtual walk that spans the distance from SLU's St. Louis campus to the Madrid campus.
The idea is to take at least 10,000 steps -- approximately five miles -- per person per day. Over the course of the summer, you and your team members will keep track of your progress. In the process, you'll participate in a healthier lifestyle and improve your well-being.
Who is eligible to join? All Saint Louis University students, faculty and staff members can participate.
When can I start? Registration opens May 18 at the 13th Annual Poker Walk, hosted by the Simon Recreation Center. The program runs for eight weeks starting Monday, June 6, and the program ends Sunday, July 31.
How do I know how far I've walked? You'll receive a pedometer to wear every day, and your team captain will chart your and your team's progress throughout the program.
How do I sign up? Organize a team (8 participants per team. No more, no less.) and choose a team name and captain. Then visit the Walk to Madrid website to sign up.
Team Captains are asked to attend a meeting on June 3. There will be three times available (8 a.m., noon and 4:30 p.m.) to receive a brief orientation and to pickup your team gear.
