The following information applies to the Civil Advocacy, Externship Criminal Defense, Judicial Externship, and Mediation Clinics. Note that each Clinic has a required companion classroom course. Hours earned in the classroom component do not count toward the cap on clinic P|F hours.
To be eligible for a Clinic, a student must have completed 46 credit hours prior to the beginning of the semester in which the student is taking a Clinic. Legal Profession is a prerequisite for all Clinics except the Judicial Externship Clinic, for which it is a pre- or co-requisite. Each Clinic may have additional prerequisites. Clinic registration date and time is announced in each semester's registration materials.
Clinic faculty will contact all applicants regarding acceptance. Some faculty may hold interviews with students seeking Clinic positions. Students who apply in compliance with the deadline announced in the registration materials will be informed of acceptance for placement by the time online registration for courses begins. Note that acceptance in the Externship and Judicial Externship Clinics may not include a specific location until a later date.
Note: Clinic faculty will provide the registrar with a list of students to be enrolled in each Clinic and companion classroom course. The online Law School registration system will not allow students to self-register for Clinics.
