The American Jewish Committee (AJC) of St. Louis has selected Saint Louis University President Lawrence Biondi, S.J., to receive its annual John D. Levy Human Relations Award.
The award is named for the late civic leader John D. Levy, past president of the St. Louis regional office and national vice-president of the AJC.
The award honors those, who like Levy, have applied their leadership, creativity and commitment to service to make St. Louis a better place.
Since 1968, the St. Louis Regional Office of American Jewish Committee (AJC) has bestowed its human relations award on a select group of individuals with outstanding leadership, creativity and commitment to the metropolitan region.
Robert Newmark, Regional Board President of the AJC-St. Louis, said Biondi's contributions are far reaching.
"Father Lawrence Biondi's impact on our region has been remarkable and will continue to benefit generations to come," Newmark said. "
"We are thrilled to see Father Biondi accept this award from the AJC, an organization with its own strong commitment to building bridges of mutual respect and understanding among diverse ethnic and religious communities in our area, across America and around the world."
Former SLU president Paul Reinert, S.J., was the 1983 honoree.The award was presented Monday, June 13, at the AJC-St. Louis annual dinner.
