Welcome to the Department of Biomedical Laboratory Science at Saint Louis University. We are thrilled to have you visit us and learn more about our profession and unique programs.
The department offers three distinct programs: Medical Laboratory Science, Cytotechnology and Investigative and Medical Sciences. MLS and CT are laboratory health care professionals and IMS is a preparatory degree.
Recently, the department celebrated 85 years of excellence and innovation in the field of laboratory science! While we have one of the oldest Medical Laboratory Science programs in the country, it is also one of the most progressive in teaching and encouraging research at the undergraduate level. Building on this base, we introduced an innovative Investigative and Medical Sciences program in 2002. The IMS degree is designed to provide pre-med and other pre-professional health students over 30 credit hours of diagnostic laboratory courses. This program is unique in its design and offers flexibility to choose a course sequence to complement your professional goals. In 2007, we introduced a Bachelor of Science in Cytotechnology which is the only cytotechnology program in the state of Missouri and one of only 29 in the nation.
Together these programs give us the distinction that comes with over 85 years of service and a creative vision for the scope of practice and future directions of laboratory medicine.
The basic science courses coupled with diagnostic laboratory courses bring added value to your undergraduate experience.
Join us and explore the world of laboratory science.
