First Year Ranks: First Year Ranks include all J.D. students who began their legal studies in a particular academic year, and who have completed the ranking semester. The Fall First Year Rankings provide students with a percentile rank (upper 5%, 10% etc.) based on their grades for the fall semester. The Spring First-Year Rankings provide students with both a percentile rank and a numeric rank based on their cumulative G.P.A. at the conclusion of the spring semester. Fall First Year Ranks are usually available by the second week in January, and Spring First Year Ranks by the end of June.
Second Year Ranks: This ranking group includes all J.D. students who have completed the fall semester and are not ranked in the first- or third-year rankings. These students receive both a numerical and a percentile rank.
Third Year Ranks: This ranking group includes all J.D. students who will be graduating in a particular academic year (January, May or August). These students receive both a numerical and a percentile rank. The Spring Third Year Ranks (or Final Ranks) are calculated after all summer grades for graduating students are received. This information is generally available at the end of August.
Second and Third Year Fall Ranks are usually available by the first week in February. Second Year Spring Ranks are usually available by the end of June.
