Freshman Application Instructions
Saint Louis University encourages students to apply using the free online application. Students wishing to apply using a paper application may request an application. Send your request to firstname.lastname@example.org or call 314-977-2500. A $25 application fee must be submitted along with the paper application.
SLU also accepts the Common Application. Please complete the Common Application online and follow the directions in the "Submitting Required Documents" section below. However, you may use the Common Application's Secondary School Report Form instead of ours. Your application will be considered for admission on the same terms and within the same timeframe as those who use SLU's regular freshman application.
COMPLETE THE ONLINE APPLICATION
1. CREATE AN ACCOUNT.
Access the online application and create a username and password. When answering the "I am enrolling as" question, select the Freshman option. Confirmation of your registration will be sent to you via email.
2. COMPLETE AND SUBMIT YOUR APPLICATION.
Click the "Save and Next" button at the bottom of each page to save your progress. Required questions are marked with a red bar. You will see a confirmation page and receive a confirmation email once your application has been submitted successfully.
As part of the free online application for admission, you will be required to complete three essay questions within the application. The questions are:
• Why are you interested in Saint Louis University?
• Tell us about where you grew up and how that has helped shape you into the person you are today.
• Based on SLU's Jesuit mission, how do you see yourself living it out throughout your college experience or beyond?
3. ADD THE SLU.EDU DOMAIN TO YOUR EMAIL SAFE LIST.
This ensures receipt of important updates from SLU throughout the application and enrollment process.
SUBMIT REQUIRED DOCUMENTS
1. SUBMIT THE SECONDARY SCHOOL REPORT FORM AND OFFICIAL HIGH SCHOOL TRANSCRIPT.
Print the Secondary School Report Form from your online application submission confirmation page or download the form here. Complete Section I and forward the form to your high school guidance counselor. Be sure to request that your guidance counselor also send your official high school transcript directly to SLU. If you are an international student, your official transcript must be accompanied by an English translation.
The Secondary School Report Form is the only recommendation required for admission. Applicants, however, are welcome to submit up to two additional letters of recommendation from other sources.
2. SUBMIT YOUR OFFICIAL TEST SCORES.
ACT or SAT Scores
SLU's ACT code is 2352; SLU's SAT code is 6629. SLU accepts either ACT or SAT scores.
Test scores must be sent electronically to Saint Louis University from the testing agency. Scores reported on a high school transcript will not be considered as official. You may submit as many individual test score reports as you deem necessary; SLU will evaluate only your highest composite score. December test scores from your senior year are the last that can be taken into account for scholarship consideration.
SLU does not require that ACT test-takers sit for the optional writing section of the ACT. The writing section of the SAT is not scored by the University; your SAT score will be considered on a 1600-point scale (math and critical reading).
TOEFL, IELTS or PTE Scores (for international students only)
- Required for admission
- TOEFL, IELTS and PTE scores are valid for two years.
- SLU's ETS code for TOEFL scores is 6629.
Test scores must be sent directly from the testing agency. Photocopied, scanned or faxed score reports will not be accepted.
3. SUBMIT A RESUME OF ACTIVITIES (encouraged)
Though not required, submission of a resume is strongly encouraged for scholarship consideration. You may submit your resume electronically after completing the online application.
4. SUBMIT AN AUDITION OR PORTFOLIO (for Music and Studio Art majors only)
The Music and Studio Art programs have additional application requirements for admission.
MUSIC PROGRAM: An audition is required for admission to the Music Program. Auditions may occur via:

STUDIO ART PROGRAM: A portfolio review is required for admission to the Studio Art Program. The Studio Art Program uses SlideRoom to accept portfolios for admission consideration. Specific instructions regarding portfolio submission parameters may be found at slu.slideroom.com.
SUBMIT APPLICATION MATERIALS BY DEC. 1
Dec. 1 of your senior year is Saint Louis University's scholarship award priority deadline. The completed Application for Freshman Admission, Secondary School Report Form, official high school transcript and official ACT or SAT scores should be submitted by Dec. 1 for:
- Priority consideration for University merit-based scholarships
- Consideration for admission to the Physical Therapy and Flight Science programs
- Consideration for SLU's Medical Scholars and Honors Programs
