The Department of Housing and Residence Life urges faculty and staff to review the guidelines for students returning to residence halls and apartments.
The following information will outline the procedures for departments making early arrival requests for students returning to the residence halls and apartments for fall 2011.
If your academic program or department requires students to return to campus prior to the academic calendar and/or the halls opening then there is a process for students and/or departments to request early arrivals.
Fall 2011 housing opens for freshmen August 24 and 25, and opens for upperclassmen August 26 and 27. Prior to these dates, the buildings are not fully staffed and thus cannot provide the safety and security operations necessary to physically open early. However, there are some exceptions for early arrivals and these are outlined below in the memo. For those academic courses which require an early arrival, we request that the academic department indicate to those students that there may be housing implications, including additional costs for housing or moving to a different location.
Students will apply in writing through an online application for an early arrival request for fall 2011. Individual request will not be reviewed until July 11. Once requests are reviewed, there will be four working days for housing staff to respond to requests. Requests will be responded to by email. The deadline to received requests will be 8 a.m. Aug. 1. Students that are approved for early arrival will be held accountable for policies and procedures outlined in the housing contract and may be removed from early arrival housing if violation of the contract occurs. There is a daily charge of $35 for the student to move in early to their residence hall or apartment.
Some buildings may not be ready for the early arrival process due to facility projects and renovations. If a student's room/building is impacted by the summer projects then they will not be approved for these reasons.
Please go to http://www.slu.edu/x26057.xml for the online early arrival request process.
No requests are approved to arrive earlier than 9 a.m. Aug. 20.
The following are requests that are typically approved: (documentation is required for each)
The advisor or department administrator will request students that are a part of the following groups. Please submit a written request directly to the associate director of housing and residence life at email@example.com. The advisor/administrator needs to let the associate director know who will be paying for the student's early arrival, if they are approved (i.e. department paying or student paying). Group requests should be submitted by Aug. 1. Please include: reason for request, student name, banner, email and date to move in.
All requests not directly related to opening of the residence halls will be subject to an early arrival daily fee of $35 no matter the housing location.
