SLU 101 Transfer Orientation FAQ
1. What will I be doing during the one-day program?

2. Will I find out which courses transferred, and how my transferred classes will be applied toward the requirements of my degree program?
Yes. During the SLU 101 Transfer Orientation program you will meet with a representative from your college's academic advising office who will review school/college degree requirements and policies. Also, you will meet individually with your academic advisor who will explain to you the courses that transferred, and the degree requirements still to be completed. Official transfer course evaluations are based on official transcripts received. Make sure you inform your academic advisor of completed coursework or degrees not included on the list of official transfer credit.
3. Do the SLU 101 Transfer Orientation program dates have limited capacity?
Unfortunately, yes. Each program has a limited capacity because we make every effort to provide students with the opportunity to meet individually with their academic advisor during the SLU 101 Transfer Orientation program. Registration for summer SLU 101 Transfer Orientation begins March 2, 2015. (For students registering for the January SLU 101 Transfer Orientation for students enrolling for classes in Spring 2015, registration will open November 3, 2014.)
4. How will I know which SLU 101 Transfer Orientation program I am scheduled to attend?
After you complete and submit the SLU 101 Transfer Orientation registration and Advising Information forms through the registration web site (accessed through mySLU, click on the SLU 101 Registration icon on the Tools tab), you will select the date of the SLU 101 Transfer Orientation program that you are able to attend.
5. Do I have to participate in all parts of the SLU 101 Transfer Orientation program?
Yes, the components of the program have been carefully considered and should be attended. Important information, which will help you to adjust to your first semester at Saint Louis University, is included in SLU 101 Transfer Orientation. You may not think you need it now, but you will appreciate it later.
6. If I am unable to attend any of the SLU 101 Transfer Orientation programs, can I make other arrangements to complete fall registration?
We expect all new transfer students to attend SLU 101 Transfer Orientation because it provides an opportunity for you to meet with your advisor to register, discuss degree requirements, and to learn about campus services and facilities. If you are unable to attend any of the SLU 101 Transfer Orientation programs, please contact your Admissions Counselor to make other arrangements to complete fall registration.
7. Will I be able to get the schedule of classes I want?
Your advisor will work with you to help you select courses that are appropriate for you and your degree program. Classes tend to close out as the registration process proceeds throughout the summer. Access to fall semester courses is on a "first come, first served" basis.
8. What can I do if I am closed out of a class that I want?
If you cannot register for a class during SLU 101 Transfer Orientation, your advisor can tell you what options are available. An appropriate substitution from your degree program can be made and you may take the closed course in the following semester. Some students may choose to contact individual academic departments to see if the department will give them permission to register for a closed course.
9. Can family members sit in on their student's advising/registration appointment?
Parents and other family members are not invited to the advising appointments. It is an important time for the student to meet with their academic advisor independently and begin developing a relationship. We recommend that family members participate in the parallel Family Program, which has content specifically designed to be of interest to parents and family members.
10. Will I have to take placement tests during SLU 101 Transfer Orientation?
Placement tests for foreign languages are not scheduled for all participants during the SLU 101 Transfer Orientation program. However, if you would like to make arrangements to take a placement test during the SLU 101 Transfer Orientation program in order to make sure that you are enrolled in the appropriate level foreign language course, please e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
11. Can my parents or other family members attend?
Yes, your parents and other guests are welcome to come with you to the SLU 101 Transfer Orientation program. Please let us know what guests will be attending with you when you register so we can prepare materials for them.
12. Will I find out my residence hall assignment during SLU 101 Transfer Orientation?
The Department of Housing and Residence Life will mail out housing assignments in July. Click here for more information regarding Housing and Residence life.
13. Will I be able to take a campus tour?
Yes, the Admissions Office conducts tours daily. Tour times will be listed on the SLU 101 Transfer Orientation schedule you'll receive when you arrive.
14. Where do I park on campus?
Students attending the SLU 101 Transfer Orientation program may park in the Laclede parking garage located at Grand Blvd & Laclede Ave. Bring a copy of your confirmation letter for free parking.
15. What should I do if I am unable to attend SLU 101 Transfer Orientation at the last minute?
Please let us know if you are unable to attend. You may call (314) 977-2805 We appreciate any notice that you can give us so that we can inform your academic advisor and others who may be expecting you.
