Chaifetz Arena has been recognized by Venues Today as one of the busiest venues of its size in the publication's mid-year rankings.
Chaifetz Arena is ranked the No. 13th venue in the world in the 10,001 - 15,000 capacity category in the 2011 Mid-Year Top Stops rankings released in the July 2011 issue of Venues Today. The report is based on concert and non-sports event gross sales and attendance between October 16, 2010 and May 15, 2011.
Chaifetz Arena hosted 31 ticketed events during that span, selling 81,029 tickets for a total of $3,581,569 in gross ticket sales. The busy schedule was highlighted with concerts by Bob Dylan, Furthur, Carrie Underwood, Miranda Lambert and comedian Mike Epps; seven performances of Cirque du Soleil: Dralion; Disney Live! Mickey's Magic Show and the world-famous Lipizzaner Stallions. Billiken basketball games and non-ticketed events including the Go! St. Louis Expo and numerous high school and college graduations were not included in these numbers.
"It's an honor to be recognized in Venues Today's mid-year rankings, which is a true sign of our consistent booking and sales efforts for Chaifetz Arena," said Global Spectrum's Jim Wynkoop, General Manager of Chaifetz Arena.
"We've hosted a great range of events in the last six months: rock, rap, country, comedy, blues concerts; celebrity basketball games, cheerleading events - we've had it all. I'm proud of our staff for putting on these events and proud of our community for supporting them."
"We're really proud of the job Global Spectrum has done managing Chaifetz Arena and the appearance in these rankings is clearly indicative of their efforts," said Janice Crawford, SLU's assistant vice president of business services.
"Not only have they enhanced our student-life by consistently bringing top-notch entertainment to campus, but they have also done a tremendous job of creating Chaifetz Arena as a destination of entertainment for the entire St. Louis region."
The wide range of events continues at Chaifetz Arena this fall with the Comedy Explosion on August 27, the Superstars of Soul featuring the Isley Brothers on September 17 and seven performances of Disney on Ice: Toy Story 3 on September 22-25, So You Think You Can Dance on October 15 and the Champions Classic tennis event on October 21 featuring Bjorn Borg and John McEnroe.
