ITS and DPS Offer Theft-Protection Security Plates for Student Computers
The information technology services (ITS) division and the Department of Public Safety are offering STOP Security Plates for student laptops for $10/piece.
STOP Security Plates reduce the likelihood of computer theft by marking your equipment with a highly visible ownership and warning label.
Under this label is a chemically bonded tattoo that cannot be removed alerting that the machine is "Stolen Property" and providing a 1-800 number to help trace the owner.
Along with serving as a theft deterrent, the security plate also provides a unique registration number that is logged in STOP's database so that a machine can always be identified. With this registration number, a computer can be tracked back to its rightful owner if ever unlawfully sold.
