|Emily Farkas, M.D. and Catherine Dennis|
Today, Aug. 3, is "Doctor Emily A. Farkas Day" in the City of St. Louis. The proclamation from St. Louis City Mayor Francis Slay's office was made at the request of Catherine Dennis, the sister of a long-time patient at SLU Hospital, who wanted to thank Farkas for saving her sister's life.
The proclamation honors Farkas' commitment to not only Dennis' sister, but the people of the City of Saint Louis, and her international volunteer work. But Farkas says excellent patient care is made possible through the combined efforts of many individuals, including multiple disciplines within the Saint Louis University Medical School, SLUCare and Saint Louis University Hospital.
Farkas plans to celebrate the day by commending her fellow physicians, nurses and staff. In partiular, she recognizes the individuals of 7ICU, 7 South, the operating room, respiratory care, pastoral care and the surgery residents, and the entire SLUCare Medical Group in supporting cardiothoracic patients.
