Requirements and Electives
Year Four offers a wide range of options incorporating required and elective curriculum, vacation, interview time, remedial activities, research, or additional course work. These elements allow students to design programs to fit their individual career goals.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PROGRAM
Year Four program offers 46 weeks scheduled from June to May.
Required course work for Year Four includes:
Effective for the 2015-2016 Academic Year (approved by the Year 3 and Year 4 Coordinating Committee 4FEB15 and the CMC 18FEB15)
Students may not attend residency interviews or schedule USMLE Step 2CK or USMLE Step 2CS while on a sub-internship. If a student receives an inteview invitation shortly before the beginning on a sub-internship, and believes that he/she must attend it, he/she may work with the Office of Curricular Affairs to drop the sub-internship and reschedule another one later in the academic year. Any student found to have attended an interview while on a sub-internship will be referred to an Associate Dean for Admissions and Student Affairs as an apparent violator of The Code of Professional Conduct for Students.
You are required to take 27 weeks (27 credit hours) of electives during Year Three and Year Four. A minimum of 19 weeks must be spent in electives classified as “direct-patient care” and eight (8) of these weeks must be chosen from the Year Three and Year Four Program offerings listed on the OCA website.
Students may not take an elective where a family member would be the person completing an evaluation and/or entering grade.
You may take no more than two (2) total weeks of Senior Inquiry (INQ) electives. Also, the sum of Non-Direct Patient Care (NPE) elective weeks and Senior Inquiry elective weeks may not exceed eight (8).

All Year Four rotations should begin at 8:00 a.m. on the first day of the elective rotation
Electives conclude at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday of the final week.
Subinterships conclude at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday of the final week.
When available, directors have included instructions for the first meeting day within the elective description.
Student evaluations provide faculty with feedback that can be used to improve the quality of education at Saint Louis University School of Medicine.
Subinternship evaluation is a REQUIREMENT of the M.D. Degree Program.
