Pius XII Memorial Library is pleased to announce its second annual participation in ReadMOre, the statewide reading initiative. This year's event will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 3, in the Knights Room of Pius Library.
There will be free refreshments with a presentation by Saint Louis University English professor Georgia Johnston, followed by a discussion of this year's book, the classic science-fiction novel The Dispossessed: An Ambiguous Utopia by Ursula K. Le Guin.
All are invited, and everyone who signs up will get a free copy of the book.
The Dispossessed is the story of Shevek, a brilliant physicist from the anarchist colony of Anarres, who becomes the first person to visit the home planet that exiled his people 170 years earlier. Shevek wants to help the two planets reconcile, but forces in both worlds hope to manipulate him and his discoveries for their own ends. Besides being a great adventure story, The Dispossessed examines questions of freedom, individuality and what makes an ideal society.
