The Nurse Educator Certificate (NEC) will prepare graduate with the skills to teach in baccalaureate, associate or diploma nursing programs. All four educator courses are offered on-line with attention to building a learning community with a culture of sharing and support. The practicum course, Nursing 559 allows students to create a unique teaching practicum experience with faculty supervision and guidance and seminar activities are aimed at helping students make a successful transition into teaching. Attention to development of the educator role is threaded through each course and culminates in the development of an educator portfolio including a personal philosophy of teaching, a research plan and examples of teaching products. Students in the NEC must meet the current residency requirements within the SON.
The NEC curriculum is available to students who have been admitted as post-master's students in the School of Nursing.
