The Department of Earth and Atmospheric has announced the first four lectures in their 2011 seminar series.
Topics include seismic activity, earthquakes and flooding with presentations from guest speakers and SLU faculty. Additional topics and speakers will be announced at a later date.
The events are scheduled from 3-4 p.m. in room 206 of O'Neill Hall.
- Friday, Sept. 23: Lupei Zhu, Ph.D., SLU professor of professor of geophysics, will discuss "Missing earthquakes in the Wabash Valley Seismic Zone and Fault plane determination of the April, 18, 2008, Mt. Carmel, Ill., earthquake."
- Monday, Sept. 26: SoGu Kim, Ph.D. , Korean Seismological Institute, will discuss "Investigation of the ROKS Cheonan Sinking Accident in the West Coast of the Korean Peninsula."
- Friday, Sept. 30: Robert Jacobson, Ph.D., Chief, River Studies Branch, US Geological Survey - CERC, will present " Understanding the 2011 Missouri River Flood."
- Wednesday, Oct. 5: Tad Smith, Ph.D., Apache Oil; Society of Exploration Geophysicists, will discuss "Practical seismic petrophysics: The effective use of log data for seismic analysis."
