The book includes 42 entries, including reflections written by Walt Whitman, Elizabeth Beecher Stowe and Mark Twain, as well as an extensive introduction, headnotes and chronology.
The book has been well-received and has been praised by the Lincoln Studies Center, which stated that it "helps to demystify the legend and bring the man alive."
