'Topics in Pathology'Event Details: 12:00 p.m., October 10, Learning Resources Center
Angel Baldan, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Saint Louis University, will present Topics in Pathology at noon on Monday, Oct. 10, in Pitlyk Auditorium C of the Learning Resources Center at the School of Medicine.
His topic is "miR-33 Controls Different Aspects of the Reverse Cholesterol Transport Pathway."
Marquart et al. have demonstrated that miR-33 controls the expression of ABCA1 in the liver and, consequently, the levels of circulating HDL-cholesterol. Therefore, miR-33 represents a new therapeutic tool to manage patients with hypercholesterolemia (PNAS 107:12228-32, 2010).
