Visit any city or relocate to a new area of town, and residents are quick to inform newcomers of the 'good parts' of town and areas that should be avoided. This is no different for the St. Louis Community. As new people move into the St. Louis area, people are often encouraged to visit certain places, such as the Central West End, Clayton, and Soulard, while cautioning newcomers to avoid others such as Jennings and South City. How does this information shape our perception of St. Louis? What messages reinforce stereotypes surrounding communities that are disproportionately poor and inhabited predominantly by people of color? The Delmar Divide Exhibit seeks to explore these complex issues.
Hosted by the Cross Cultural Center and in collaboration with the Student Success Center, the Delmar Divide Exhibit, based on a short British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) documentary, titled "Crossing a Street That Divides Communities," will explore striking socioeconomic differences that plague Delmar Boulevard, which spans from east to west through the areas of University City and inner city St. Louis. This exhibit will also highlight the Midtown area and draw attention to the Saint Louis University community's perception of social class and of the surrounding St. Louis region.

In early March 2012, Frank Strasser, a reporter for the BBC World in Washington, was researching background information on St. Louis for a news report. He found himself filming a second news report based on what his research uncovered; a city still segregated. The video features St. Louisians, as they share their insights into racial and socioeconomic segregation in a city.
