Members of the Saint Louis University community are encouraged to submit a book recommendation for consideration for the University's First-Year Summer Reading Program by Friday, Oct. 28. Submit recommendations online at the First-Year Summer Reading Program web page.
During the summer prior to the start of their first semester at SLU, incoming students are expected to read a common book. The goals of the program include:
All recommendations will be submitted to the Student Involvement Center and reviewed by a committee focused on the 2013 book selection process. The committee, made up of faculty, students and staff, will review book recommendations that seem to meet the above stated goals.
Additional student feedback will be utilized once the committee narrows down the recommendations to the final selection of books being reviewed. The committee will then read all the books under final consideration and submit a final recommendation of the top book to the vice president of Academic Affairs Office for approval.

Any genre (including fiction and non-fiction) are open to consideration and the book should not be discipline specific.
