Greg Boyle, S.J., founder of Homeboy Industries and author of the award-winning book Tattoos on the Heart: The Power of Boundless Compassion, will be speaking on campus at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 30, in Wool Ballroom 170 of the Busch Student Center.
Homeboy Industries is a groundbreaking organization located in Los Angeles that serves at-risk and gang involved youth with a continuum of services and programs designed to meet their multiple needs. The organization also runs four businesses that serve as job-training sites. It is recognized as the largest and most effective gang member re-entry program in the nation.
Boyle is presenting as part of the larger Campus Kitchens National Justice Conference, being held at SLU Oct. 28-30. The Boyle presentation is free and open to all. Participation in the conference is not required of attendees. He will also be autographing copies of his book afterward.
Boyle will preside and preach at the 9 p.m. Mass later that evening in the St. Francis Xavier College Church.
The event is being co-sponsored by the SLU Campus Kitchen, Campus Ministry, the Great Issues Committee,and the Center for Service and Community Engagement.
