Madrid Campus Students
SLU students studying full-time on the Madrid Campus are eligible to participate in the University Honors Program. Interested students may apply prior to enrolling at SLU or as current students. The application process is managed by the St. Louis campus, but applicants should be in contact with the Honors advisor in Madrid, Jaime Ortiz about their interest in the program.
Incoming Students: Individuals who have achieved an un-weighted high school GPA of 3.8 AND an ACT composite score of 30 or an SAT score of 1330 are invited to apply to the program prior to their first year at Saint Louis University. Individuals who do not meet the test score and/or GPA requirements but demonstrate strong potential through writing samples and letters of recommendation are also encouraged to apply.
Current Students: Students who have completed at least one semester at Saint Louis University, have a minimum of a 3.5 cumulative GPA, and have fewer than 45 earned credit hours may apply for admission to the University Honors Program. Students who were not accepted to the University Honors Program as incoming students and now meet the eligibility requirements are strongly encouraged to apply.
To be considered for admission to the University Honors Program, candidates must submit the three components of the application:
- The electronic application form
- Writing sample
- 2 letters of recommendation.
The University Honors Program may also review materials submitted with your application to Saint Louis University.
The electronic application includes contact information, a listing of 3 major accomplishments, and self-reported GPA and test scores.
The writing sample should be a college-level essay or research paper that totals approximately 6 double-spaced pages and reflects your writing skills and academic interests. The work should also include an instructor's remarks and grade. Writing samples should be sent directly to the University Honors Program via email, fax, or mail.
The letters of recommendation should comment not only on the applicant's academic potential but also on the applicant's breadth of interests, commitment to academic excellence, and leadership potential. The recommendations should be from SLU faculty members, advisors, or other professionals qualified to speak to the candidate's academic abilities. Applicants should submit letters of recommendation directly to the University Honors Program via email, fax, or mail.
