With one week remaining, this year's United Way Campaign has raised nearly 50 percent of its $95,000 goal. As of Monday, Oct. 24, Saint Louis University employees have pledged $44,150.
United Way of Greater St. Louis serves 16 Missouri and Illinois counties: St. Louis City, St. Louis County, St. Charles, Lincoln, Warren, Franklin and Jefferson counties in Missouri, and St. Clair, Monroe, Madison, Randolph, Jersey, Calhoun, Macoupin, Clinton and Greene counties in Illinois.
Because of the commitment of many generous volunteers, United Way is able to be extremely efficient, keeping costs low so that more people can be helped. One in three people in the community are helped by the organization and more than 40,000 volunteers give their time each year. Find out more about United Way volunteers, at their web site.
In 2010, more than $1 million each week went back to the community through United Way, thanks to donations. United Way provides funding to more than 170 agencies that strengthen families, invest in children, build safer neighborhoods and support the elderly. For a list of all the agencies United Way serves, visit their web site.
Instead of focusing on one single cause, the United Way focuses on hundreds of them, helping the community as a whole. They fund deserving organizations that make a lasting and important impact on our region. Each year, United Way invests millions in projects, partnerships and grants to help some of the pressing needs in the community. Find out more at the United Way web site.
