Saint Louis University earned a Bronze rating from the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE.) The association's Sustainability, Tracking, Assessment & Rating System program, more commonly known as STARS, recognizes colleges' and universities' efforts in not just eco-friendliness, but also social and economic sustainability.
The Center for Sustainability collaborated with Facilities Services and numerous other departments on campus to assemble a comprehensive sustainability assessment that earned Saint Louis University national recognition in addition to the Bronze rating. The SLU STARS report is publicly available through AASHE's website. STARS tracks sustainability efforts and achievements across four primary categories:
Outreach programs, research, and about sustainability-related curriculum development
Water, waste, and transportation management to building, grounds, and purchasing
Insights on affordability, human resources, and community programs and education
Areas where SLU sets itself apart as a leader in sustainability in higher education
The Center for Sustainability supports AASHE's goals to keep its rating system transparent and accessible to anyone. Through this system, SLU can gauge its own growth in the area of sustainability and gain perspective by comparing itself to more than 300 academic institutions nationwide.
