Vincent C. Immel Society
"The impact Vince had as a teacher on the way that law is practiced in this town is simply extraordinary. I suspect no other teacher has so influenced legal practice in any major city anywhere in the United States. If Yankee Stadium is the house that Ruth built, the St. Louis legal community is in large part, the bar that Immel taught and trained."
Joel K. Goldstein, Vincent C. Immel Professor of Law
The School of Law's Immel Society is being created in recognition of Vincent C. Immel, a brilliant and legendary teacher, whose vision of legal education and generosity of spirit symbolized the soul of the Saint Louis University School of Law. Professor Immel positively influenced generations of students, teaching from 1958 to 2004 and serving as dean from 1962 to 1969. He believed in the power of giving annually and was among the ranks of the school's most generous annual donors. His giving culminated with his final gift of more than $3.5 million dollars - the value of his estate-for the benefit of the Saint Louis University School of Law.
Become a Founding Member of the Vincent C. Immel Society
To do justice to the tremendous influence Professor Immel had, it is fitting that membership in a gift society named in his honor reflect his enduring commitment to his students, SLU LAW and the community. Therefore, membership in the Immel Society is granted to those donors who cumulatively give $1,000 or more to the law school for any purpose in a given fiscal year (July1-June 30).
The inaugural membership year will be July 1, 2011 through June 30, 2012. Donors making qualifying gifts during this period will be considered founding members of the Vincent C. Immel Society. Each year at the flagship Immel Society event - the Vincent C. Immel Lecture on Teaching Law and Private Reception - a toast in Prof. Immel's memory will be made.
