The Paul C. Reinert, S.J., Center for Teaching Excellence announces a call for applications for two faculty fellowships to begin in Fall 2012. CTE Faculty Fellows are integral to the identity and development of the Center, and this year, for the first time ever, they are inviting applications for these desirable positions.
In the past, CTE Faculty Fellows have been invaluable in shaping and advancing the Center's mission, expanding its programs and services, and building new partnerships toward establishing a culture of evidence-based teaching and learning at Saint Louis University. As the Center enters its 15th year, they seek engaging, diverse faculty members, committed to the transformative possibilities of excellent teaching, who will help advance the Center's mission to foster innovative and reflective teachers across the University.
Faculty Fellows are appointed for one academic year with possible renewal of the fellowship for up to two additional years, as determined by ongoing projects and interest. Fellows earn a stipend of $2,500 per academic year (disbursed at $1,250 per semester).
Fellows work on a variety of projects, depending on their expertise and the Center's needs. For instance, past Fellows have overseen the selection of winners for the Jim Korn Award for Scholarship of Teaching and Learning and the CTE White Papers contributors; chaired various CTE advisory and ad hoc committees; helped design the CTE Learning Studio; facilitated workshops, Conversations on Teaching and Effective Teaching Seminars; consulted with faculty on clinical and classroom teaching strategies; and developed content for online learning modules, among other things.
While the specific contributions of individual faculty will vary, all CTE Faculty Fellows will:
- Serve on the CTE's Advisory Board (about two board meetings per year);
- Serve on the CTE's Executive Committee (about four meetings per year);
- Support, promote, and when possible, attend Center programs; and
- Participate in developing, implementing and assessing Center programs, as appropriate.
Depending on the particular nature of a faculty member's expertise, some Fellows may be asked to hold a minimal number of periodic office hours in the Center, consult with faculty in an area of teaching expertise or other things. Specific expectations will be determined in collaboration with selected Fellows.
Full-time, permanent SLU faculty from a broad range of disciplines are invited to apply for this fellowship. Applicants must have completed a minimum of two years teaching experience at SLU by the beginning of the fellowship term. Priority consideration will be given to applicants who have an existing relationship with the Center. In anticipation of strategic initiatives for 2012-2015, the Center is particularly interested in applications from faculty who have experience with Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL), clinical teaching, distance education, and/or teaching and learning in international contexts.
Interested faculty should submit a completed application to Mary Cook at firstname.lastname@example.org no later than 5 p.m. Monday, Feb. 27. Applications must include all of the following to be considered complete: 1) a completed application form, 2) a statement of teaching philosophy, and 3) a Statement of support from the applicant's chair and dean.

The goal will be to select faculty who are experienced teachers (either in the clinic or the classroom, real or virtual), who are committed to the Center's mission and goals, and who can foster reflective and innovative teaching practices in their colleagues across all disciplines, schools and departments.
