This is a community supported agriculture (CSA) program that will partner with local farmers to supply you with quality, local produce.
What is a Community Supported Agriculture Program?
Over the last 20 years, Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) has become a popular way for consumers to buy local, seasonal food directly from a farmer. Here are the basics: a farmer offers a certain number of "shares" to the public. Typically the share consists of a box of vegetables, but other farm products may be included. Interested consumers purchase a share (aka a "membership" or a "subscription") and in return receive a box (bag, basket) of seasonal produce each week throughout the farming season.
What is the cost of Fresh Gatherings Harvest?
A share consists of a crate of produce harvested weekly by local farmers. The variety and amount available each week depends on seasonality and the farmers' yield. A full share is $850 ($35.41/week) and a half share is $550 ($22.91/week). Keep in mind that the idea of this program is to support local farmers who practice agriculturally sustainable methods.
When can I pick up my weekly share?
Every Thursday between 4pm and 6pm, shareholders will pick up their CSA crate of fresh produce in Fresh Gatherings Cafe. Shareholders will be sent a newsletter outlining what will be in their crate as well as recipes they can make with the produce they will be recieving. If you are unable to pick up your crate on Thursdays, you will have until Friday at 4:30pm to claim your crate. Any non-claimed CSA produce will be donated to a local charity - such as Campus Kitchen.
What makes SLU's CSA different from other CSAs
Our CSA will offer a surprise every week in the shares. This can range anywhere from local honey to local strawberry jam. We also strive to ensure you recieve the best value for your money by providing you with a large variety of beautiful produce. The Fresh Gathering's CSA strives for great customer service and allows you to swtich out produce your family does not enjoy for an item of equal value from the Farm Stand.

Commitments and payments may be made no later than Friday, May 8th. Payments must be submitted in full up front, along with the signed contract, and turned in to Carolyn Iezzi in the Nutrition and Dietetics Department, Room 3076, in the Allied Health Building.
