About SLU Newslink:
SLU Newslink is an official source for University-wide news, including significant administrative appointments, policy changes that affect the SLU community and major campus events.
What is Posted:
The SLU Newslink Web page and Daily Update email generally include University-related news, announcements and events, geared toward the greater SLU community. Submitters should be mindful of this when submitting their items. Submission does not guarantee inclusion.
Charitable activities that are sponsored or endorsed by a University department also may be posted. SLU Newslink is an official source for University-wide news, including significant administrative appointments, policy changes that affect the SLU community and major campus events.
What is Not Posted:
- News, announcements and events that are not related to the University or a University department generally are not posted. Items such as weddings, births, personal items for sale and any solicitations by non-University personnel are not posted.
- Items submitted by students or student organizations must include written approval of a faculty/staff adviser. To save time, student groups may wish to have their advisers complete the suggestion form.
- Announcements targeted for only select groups of faculty, staff and students are not appropriate for this University-wide communication.
- Items that advocate a particular political opinion or view generally are not posted. This would not preclude announcements of on-campus speakers with political backgrounds, but such announcements should not be used to advocate a political position.
- Information about human studies generally are not posted without IRB approval. In your submission, please include the IRB number and study coordinator name. These will not be printed with the submission; they will serve as verification for the IRB office. All studies will be routed to the IRB for approval for use in SLU Newslink before posting.
- Information about most professional notes, presentations, awards and papers generally are held for monthly publication in "Professional Notes," a special feature in the SLU Newslink e-mail. To submit an item, email email@example.com.
Submitting News, Announcements or Events:
At the top of the SLU Newslink homepage, there is a "Submit News" link. Simply click the link and complete the online form to submit your information.
Submission deadlines and posting dates:
Unless otherwise requested, most submitted items will be posted both on SLU Newslink and in the Daily Update. Most items received prior to noon Monday through Friday will be will be sent out in the next business day's Daily Update, with those items appearing on the SLU Newslink Web site the next day. Most items received after noon will be posted on the second business day after submission, with those items appearing on the SLU Newslink Web site the day after that. Some items may be held for a future edition of the Daily Update.
Campus events generally will be posted an additional time the "Today's Events" section in the Daily Update e-mail on the day of the event. To be fair to all news submitters, SLU Newslink generally does not run particular items multiple times without special circumstance and prior approval from the director of University communications. The SLU Newslink team is not responsible for lost, late, misdirected or incomplete news suggestions. Holidays, special HTML coding, fact checking and other functions may alter the posting schedule.
Be sure to plan ahead for potential questions. The SLU Newslink team recommends submitting your news at least four days before the desired run date so that questions may be addressed in a timely fashion or in case of technological difficulties. The SLU Newslink team is not responsible for incomplete, inaccurate or late submissions.
In your submission, please use complete sentences. Please include all degree abbreviations (M.D., Ph.D., S.J., etc) as applicable. If you are submitting news about an event, please include the time, day, date and location, including specific building and room number (Do not use abbreviations or informal building names). Please include whether the event is open to faculty/staff only, faculty/staff/students/, faculty/staff/students/alumni, or the public at large. Submissions with incomplete information will not be posted.

Information about events open only to select groups of faculty, staff or students generally will not be posted prior to the event. If desired, a recap may be posted within a few days of the event's end at SLU Newslink's discretion.
SLU in the News:
If you have been mentioned in or interviewed or quoted by a news outlet, the SLU Newslink team may wish to use that for the "SLU in the News" section of the Daily Update e-mail. For consideration, use the SLU Newslink submission form to let the Newslink team know the following:
- which media outlet interviewed you
- when the interview took place
- when the quote ran (issue number, date found online, etc.)
- a direct link to the article, if possible
- what you were interviewed about
The SLU Newslink team will route all "SLU in the News" suggestions to the proper media specialist for verification before posting. Because of this, it may be a few days before an item is posted.
To suggest a link for inclusion in your item's story, include a note in the "Content" area of the submission form. Please note that the Newslink team generally does not house documents from other departments within its Web folder. The SLU Newslink team recommends that departments and organizations post calendars, special images and lengthy information on their own Web sites, to which SLU Newslink then can link. To post a document on the Web, please contact your department's web administrator.
To suggest a photo for inclusion in your item's story, email a .jpg, .tiff or .gif to firstname.lastname@example.org. You first must include a note on the official suggestion form (along with the news/event information) that an image for your story is forthcoming. Please wait for a response from a SLU Newslink team member before sending the photo. Be sure to include a summary of what's happening and who is in the photo. Please send photos as Jpeg, Gif or Tiff files only. Do not submit photos that are embedded within a text document.
If the photo already exists on the web, email the location to email@example.com. For inclusion, images must be pertinent to the news item. Please allow extra time to process photo requests. Photos will be used at SLU Newslink's discretion.
For consistency among all University publications, the SLU Newslink team generally follows the writing style of the Associated Press. In addition, the team also consults the Catholic News Service Stylebook on Religion and SLU's own writing style guide.
The SLU Newslink team only accepts information via the official suggestion form. Upon approval from the SLU Newslink team, submittors may email photos or Microsoft Word text documents (not flyers with images) after submitting text information via the form, and only if the documents are absolutely necessary. The following types of documents will not be accepted: Adobe Acrobat PDFs, Word Perfect documents, Microsoft Publisher documents, Microsoft Excel documents, Corel Draw images, bitmap images. There may be others not listed. Please allow extra time to process lengthy information or information that requires research, fact checking or special HTML coding.
The University marketing and communications department has final discretion to determine SLU Newslink and Daily Update content and posting dates.
