Health Sciences Education Union (HSEU)
This state-of-the-art Health Sciences Education Union (HSEU) is located in the new heart of the Saint Louis University Medical Center.
The tiered 225-seat auditorium is designed to give students the ability to move around and form teams for group discussions. Computer connections and outlets are at every seat.
Since its opening in August 2011, the brick and glass 30,000-square-foot HSEU has been a hub of activity at the Medical Center, serving as a sleek and welcoming front door for future health care professionals.
The building is designed to bring together medical, nursing, allied health, public health and graduate dental students not only for lunch at the café but also for interprofessional education (IPE). This program is one of the nation’s first of its kind to create a formal curriculum that teaches health care students from different professional paths how to work together as a team to provide the best possible patient care.
THE HSEU BOASTS:
- Two student lounge areas — one designed for socializing and the other for quiet study
- A café-style restaurant
- 11 cutting-edge patient exam rooms, where students can practice their skills with standardized patients and then review their interactions thanks to a high-tech camera system
- A state-of-the-art auditorium with a 25-panel high definition video screen, which is wired for video conferencing
