Student Spotlight: Jack McAtee
Organization: Beta Theta Pi
Jack McAtee, sophomore Beta Theta Pi, is a true example of a man for others. He lives out Jesuit values and leadership abilities in many places on and off SLU's campus.
In his chapter, McAtee is the Men of Principle Chair. This position includes planning Beta's annual retreat and educating new members on the five principles of Beta: mutual assistance, intellectual growth, trust, responsible conduct, and integrity. Jack has also done extensive service projects with Amigos for Christ in both Honduras and Nicaragua. He is hoping to return for a third time to Nicaragua this summer with an internship though Amigos for Christ.
Jack is not only a great leader, but a great representative for both SLU and his Greek organization. He has a genuine passion for this university and anyone can see it when he starts to talk about SLU. When asked why he chose SLU, McAtee said he'd applied to over a dozen schools, and SLU was his last visit, but after being on campus, he could "see myself being happy and thriving here for the next four years."
Jack says he was very hesitant to join a fraternity, but when he realized how much he missed the brother-like atmosphere of his all-boys Jesuit high school, Greek life seemed like the way to go. When discussing why he's stayed for over a year, Jack's answer came easily: "The people and the principles. The guys in my organization are great, they challenge me to become a better person... I also love how we have such a huge focus on service, from our philanthropy at North Grand Neighborhood Services, to the highest involvement with the Greek Mission Trip."
