ST. LOUIS -- JAMDA, the scientific journal edited by John Morley, M.D., director of geriatrics and endocrinology at Saint Louis University School of Medicine, is becoming one of top referenced medical journals in the geriatrics and gerontology category.
The Science Citation Index (SCI) Impact Factor (IF), which measures the average citations to articles published in scientific and social science journals, ranked JAMDA, the Journal of the American Medical Directors Association, as fourth in a field of 44 geriatrics journals in 2011. The publication had ranked in sixth place in 2010 and seventh place in 2009.
"Our new ranking provides major recognition for nursing home medicine as a specialty in its own regard," said Morley, who also is a SLUCare geriatrician. "In addition, the fact that the impact factor for a geriatric journal is so high is showing that at last there is recognition of the importance of care for older people."
JAMDA publishes peer-reviewed articles including original studies, reviews, clinical experience articles and case reports. Morley has been editor-in-chief since 2007.
