Vaxjo is at the center of the Sea Kingdom and as such is a center for trade, culture, media and education. Vaxjo has a long history dating back to the 12th century. Home to Kronoberg Castle, the Farmer's Revolt, Vaxjo Cathedral and more, Vaxjo has a lot to offer.
In Vaxjo you can live a busy city life, as well as experience the tranquility of the outdoors. Vaxjo is a city with all kinds of entertainment. You will find nightclubs, restaurants and pubs with jazz, classical or rock music, as well as theatre and opera.
Vaxjo Study Center
The Vaxjo program is offered through Linnaeus University, a major regional university with 10,000 students. Linnaeus offers undergraduate programs in management sciences, social sciences, health sciences, computer science, engineering and natural sciences, humanities and teacher training.
English is the first foreign language taught in Sweden, so most do speak and understand it. However, it is recommended that students learn some Swedish while there. There is an optional Swedish language course available.
Linnaeus International Students (VIS) is an organization on campus that arranges activities for students who are interested in intercultural activities.
There are several types of accommodations available to students. There are dorm rooms, single room apartments, a room in a private home, sharing an apartment with other students or host families. Each type has its own unique benefits. Learn more. Note: Students will pay housing directly to the University and is not included in the SLU program cost.
The list of courses, which are taught in English, can be found here. Students are encouraged to take beginner courses in the Swedish language.
The student will pay SLU tuition per semester. While the Study Abroad office will help you with the setup of your room and board logistics, these are paid directly to Linnaeus University. All SLU financial aid and scholarships, with the exception of those geared specifically towards housing, will go with the student. In addition, a mandatory $250 international insurance fee per semester will be added to the student's account.
