Each year, the Office of Academic Affairs and the Reinert Center for Transformative Teaching and Learning co-sponsor a two-day Academic Portfolio Retreat, designed to assist faculty in the preparation of tenure or promotion dossiers. Information about the next Academic Portfolio Retreat is as follows:
When: Friday, April 11 (8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m.), and Saturday, April 12 (8:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.)
Please note: all participants must commit to full participation in both days of the retreat.
Who: Tenure-track and non-tenure track faculty preparing for 3rd-year review, tenure, or
promotion. Seating is limited to 25.
How: Faculty members may self-nominate or be nominated by their chairs/directors. Completed nomination forms must be received no later than Friday, March 7, 2014.
Cost: Departments are asked to contribute $100 per participant toward the cost of materials and meals. All other costs are covered by the University.
The retreat will be facilitated by Marilyn Miller, Ph.D., formerly the director of the University of Missouri Program for Excellence in Teaching and an educational consultant at the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Dr. Miller is co-author of Building an Academic Portfolio: A Guided Workbook, a practical, hands-on guide for developing a dossier, which participants will receive at the retreat.
During the retreat, participants will write about, reflect on, and organize evidence of their teaching, research, and service, in preparation for tenure or promotion review. The retreat also provides faculty with an opportunity to come together across disciplines, as a teaching and research community, for conversation and mentoring. Participants leave with a preliminary draft of their academic portfolio.
