The divisions of neurology and psychiatry will hold joint Grand Rounds for both divisions from 8-9 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, in Lecture Hall 1 of Schwitalla Hall.
Melanie McKean, D.O., Ph.D., will present "Psychiatric Care During Pregnancy and Postpartum." McKean is an assistant professor in the division of neurology and psychiatry. McKean completed her doctoral work at Oklahoma State University Center for Health Sciences and earned her medical degree from Oklahoma State University College of Osteopathic Medicine. That was followed by an internal medicine-psychiatry combined residency at Rush University Medical Center with a Women's Health track. She joined SLUCare from her residency.
McKean is a member of the American College of Physicians, the American Psychiatric Association and the Association of Medicine and Psychiatry. An attending physician at Saint Louis University Hospital, McKean has clinical expertise in women's mental health and women's primary care, with a focus on preventative medicine and the reproductive years.
In addition to patient care and teaching responsibilities, McKean has research interests in women's health and psychiatry, including postpartum depression, sexual disorders and reproductive dysfunction. In her spare time, McKean enjoys photography and spending time with her family.
