Stuart Kornfeld, M.D., David C. and Betty Farrell Professor in the department of medicine at Washington University in St. Louis, will present the Second William S. Sly Lecture at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24 in the Health Sciences Education Union.
A physician-scientist, Kornfeld discovered how lysosomal enzymes travel from where they're produced to they're needed. Lysosomes are the part of the cellular system that breaks down cell waste materials and debris. His talk is titled, "New Insights into the Mannose 6-Phosphate Lysosomal Enzyme Trafficking Pathway."
Kornfeld is a professor in the division of hematology and co-director of the Physician Scientist Training Program at Washington University.
