Dan White, S.J., who will be formally installed as the new pastor of St. Francis Xavier College Church during 10:30 a.m. Mass Sunday, Oct. 28, brings years of experience in pastoral ministry to his new position, along with a sense of vision for the parish he will serve.

"The College Church is unique blend of so many ministries and people," White said. "It's a chapel and parish rooted in a university campus. The Masses draw SLU students, faculty and staff along with members of the religious community, the neighborhood and beyond. It's not a geographical parish. Our members come from about 70 different zip codes."
Being part of the Saint Louis University campus and community is not exactly a new experience for Father White who, as he puts it, "met the Jesuits" at SLU while working on his undergraduate degree in history (B.A.'90).
As a student, he was drawn to the Jesuit philosophy and commitment. During his junior and senior years, White connected with a Jesuit spiritual director and ultimately decided to apply to the seminary program, entering in August 1991 in Denver.
In the years that followed he earned his master's in American Studies at SLU (M.A. '95) and taught at Regis High School in Denver. In preparation for his final vows, Father White served his tertianship in Australia. It was an experience he found very meaningful.
"During my time in Australia, I took part in a 30-day retreat where we went through the Spiritual Exercises of Ignatius," White said. "The retreat took place in a rural village in an old stone church that is the last Jesuit winery in the world.
Father White was ordained at the College Church in 2001 and said his first Mass the day after his ordination. In the years since, he has served as associate pastor at St. Francis Xavier Church in Kansas City, pastor of St. Martin de Porres' Parish in Belize City, Belize, in Central America, and cared for the novices of the Missouri and New Orleans Provinces of the Society of Jesus.
And in what is a sense of life going full circle, Father White returns to a campus and a parish that has been a meaningful part of the foundation of his life and calling. To a city where he loves to jog, ride his bike, and visit Forest Park and the diverse city neighborhoods. And to a mission to lead and serve.
