Larry L. Cockell
Retired - Senior Vice President and Chief Security Officer
Larry L. Cockell recently retired as the Senior Vice President and Chief Security Officer at Time Warner, the world's leading media and entertainment company, whose businesses include filmed entertainment, television networks, global news operations and publishing. He was responsible for security programs at Time Warner on a worldwide basis, overseeing and coordinating the company's security policies and operations.
Prior to joining Time Warner in January 2002, Mr. Cockell served for 20 years in various positions within the U.S. Secret Service, culminating his government career as the agency's Deputy Director.
Before his appointment to Deputy Director, he was Assistant Director of the Secret Service's Office of Human Resources and Training, directing all career development programs for the agency. As a member of the Treasury Executive Institute's Advisory Board, he consulted on candidate standards for the Senior Executive Service, the highest career management tier in government.
From 1998 to 2000, Mr. Cockell held the position of Special Agent in Charge of the Presidential Protective Division, directing all security activities for the President, First Family and the White House Complex. Prior to that assignment, he was Special Assistant to the Secretary, serving as law enforcement advisor to the Secretary of the Treasury.
His career in law enforcement began in 1973 with the Metropolitan St. Louis Police Department, where he worked until 1981.
In 2001, he received the Meritorious Presidential Rank Award for Government Service and was named recipient of the Government Leadership Award for Diversity by the Business Women's Network. He is an active member of the Homeland Security Advisory Council, Department of Homeland Security, Overseas Security Advisory Council, Department of State and Domestic Security Alliance Council, Federal Bureau of Investigation.
A native of St. Louis, Mr. Cockell holds a degree in urban affairs from Saint Louis University and Senior Executive Service Program certifications from George Washington University and the Federal Executive Institute.
