Saint Louis University's Mock Trial team held the eighth annual Billikens Barrister mock trial tournament this weekend at the Thomas Eagleton Courthouse in downtown St. Louis.
The American Mock Trial Associations-sanctioned invitational included 12 teams from universities throughout the Midwest. Each team competed in four trials throughout the weekend. The competition, which was the first competition for most teams this season, was intense with the top three teams extremely close in win/loss records and separated by just a few points.
By the end of the competition on Sunday, Saint Louis University placed in third, with a team from the University of Kansas coming in first and the University of Notre Dame coming in second.
SLU teams also came away with several prestigious Top Attorney and Top Witness awards. SLU's Nidhi Narielwala, George Lankford and Brian Grievenkamp each garnered "Best Attorney" awards and Mark Holzum received a "Best Witness" award.
Special thanks for making this a successful tournament goes to Rachel Marshall and Jim Woodward of the federal court staff and especially Kelley McCottrell, administrative secretary for the pre-law department.
