Abhay Kumar, M.D., has joined the faculty of Saint Louis University School of Medicine as an assistant professor in the Department of Neurology & Psychiatry. Dr. Kumar earned his medical degree from Patna Medical College, Patna, India, followed by a residency in internal medicine at Westlake Hospital, Ill., and a neurology residency at University of Florida College of Medicine. He joins SLUCare from his fellowship in neurocritical care at Washington University School of Medicine.
Board-certified in psychiatry and neurology, Dr. Kumar is a member of the American Academy of Neurology and the Neurocritical Care Society.
Dr. Kumar is an attending physician at Saint Louis University Hospital and has clinical expertise in malignant ischemic stroke, intracranial and subarachnoid hemorrhages, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, status epilepticus and neuromuscular emergencies. In addition to patient care and teaching responsibilities, Dr. Kumar has research interests in the outcome of various patient populations discharged from neurocritical care units.
