Experiencing sexual or relationship violence can be an overwhelming and isolating experience. Sexual assault and relationship violence are traumatic experiences that can interrupt your life at home, work, and school. It can sometimes affect your relationships with friends and family. Many victims try to cope and manage their feelings on their own, which is a common response to dealing with such a painful and frightening experience.
At Saint Louis University, we want you to know that you are not alone. We are here to support and encourage you regardless of where you are in your process. When it comes to counseling, there is no one-size-fits-all approach. Instead, we strive to respect where you are and what you are ready to do. Honoring your process is of the utmost importance to us. When you are ready, we are here. While counseling can be scary, it can be helpful in relieving symptoms commonly associated with traumatic experiences. These can include: fear, guilt, shame, nightmares, flashbacks, and others.
