Active Minds came to Saint Louis University during the 2009-2010 school year. At the beginning of the 2010-2011 school year, it officially become the 231st national chapter of Active Minds. Along with support from University Counseling Center, SLU's Active Minds chapter has dedicated itself to changing the way college students approach the concept of mental health.
Our goal is to remove the stigma that surrounds mental illness and create an environment that allows for open conversation on mental health issues. Active Minds has created, sponsored, and hosted many events and activities to raise awareness about different mental health issues, including suicide, depression, stress, and others that are targeted and relevant to college students.
The organization creates fun, yet informative ways to help the student body learn about the resources available on and around campus. The simultaneous benefit is stomping out the stigma around taking care of one's own mental health.
