ST. LOUIS -- Joanne Thanavaro, DNP, has been named associate dean for graduate education in the School of Nursing, a position she had held on an interim basis.

As associate dean, Thanavaro oversees the faculty and curriculum of the master's nurse practitioner programs and both the Ph.D., and DNP doctoral programs. She also provides oversight of the continuing education programs and the University Nursing Group and collaborates with other graduate program directors across the University.
An engaged teacher, scholar and member of the academic community, Thanavaro has served as coordinator of the adult and adult/geriatric nurse practitioner option since 2007.
Thanavaro maintains an active clinical practice in adult, geriatric and acute nursing and will be inducted as a Fellow of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners on June 20, signifying her outstanding contributions and leadership as a nurse practitioner in clinical practice, research and education.
The search committee was chaired by Debbie Loman, Ph.D., and its members included Margaret Benz, Helen Lach, Ph.D., Cathy Koetting, Norma Metheny, Ph.D., Andrew Mills, Ph.D., Karen Moore, Geri Ochs and Rita Tadych, Ph.D.
