Treatment for children with blood disorders and cancer
We offer consultations for new patients, and ongoing clinical care for patients with blood disorders or cancer, chemotherapy infusions, and blood component transfusions. Our SLUCare are experts in the following areas:
- Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation
- Sickle cell anemia/hemoglobinopathies
- Long-term follow-up
SLUCare hematologists and oncologists are active participants in the Children's Oncology Group and the Center for International Blood and Marrow Transplant Research, and is one of the founding institutions of the Neuroblastoma and Medulloblastoma Translational Research Consortium, which is actively investigating innovative approaches to the treatment of childhood cancer.
In addition, SLUCare hematologists and oncologists participate in several national and pharmaceutical company-sponsored studies of hemostasis and sickle cell disease. We also collaborate with the St. Louis Cord Blood Bank. The number of cord blood units donated for transplant continue to grow each year, and the bank remains one of the largest such programs in the country.
