Fall Welcome begins with move-in! Residence hall floor or apartment area assignment will determine which day a student will move to campus. In preparation for your arrival on August, read more about the move-in process for your assigned residence hall and consider the move-in tips below.
- Review the move-in process for your residence hall and locate your check-in location prior to your arrival.
- Arrive to SLU on your assigned date.
- Bring your SLU student ID and have it readily accessible.
- Dress comfortably with close-toed shoes.
- Pack your items in boxes or larger containers to reduce the number of trips necessary to your new room.
- Pack your items in boxes able to be carried by one person.
- Label all of your boxes, plastic tubs, and large items with your name, hall, and room number.
- Bring the appropriate tools for any of your items that require assembly.
- Plan for all types of weather.
- Be patient.
- Stay hydrated.

Lofts kits help maximize floor space in your room. Each loft kit will allow the bed of one person to be elevated (72 inches from floor to top of mattress) on an additional set of bed ends that are then secured by support braces. This allows enough room below the bed for a desk and dresser to be placed between and beneath the bed.
Loft kits for Freshmen spaces will be installed upon arrival to campus. If uninstalled, the loft kit pieces must remain in your room for the duration of the academic year. Removal or damage to the loft kit pieces will result in charges to your SLU student account.
Students are encouraged to make their room more personal and homelike. However, we ask that students do not damage or permanently alter the room/living unit. If there are any questions about what can and cannot be altered in the room, ask the Housing and Residence Life staff. Any permanent damage will result in damage fees. The guidelines for decorating are as follows:
- Do not use double-sided tape, putty, duct tape, or other substances that will leave a "gummy" residue on your door, walls, or furniture.
- For plaster and drywall surfaces, use thumbtacks and small nails (no more than 10 per wall). For cinderblock walls, use masking tape.
- Use only tacks or small nails. Do not use screws, large nails or other implements to hang items. Do not put multiple holes in close proximity to each other.
- Do not hang wallpaper, border paper, or anything that will permanently adhere to the walls.
- Do not put anything on either side of your door which may leave marks or residue.
- Mirrors, extra shelves, hooks, and other such items need to be removed at the end of the year. They are not considered room improvements.
- Residents who attempt to paint or make any repairs to their own rooms will be charged for repair by the university.
- Do not line drawers or shelves with adhesive-backed paper.
- At the end of the year, students are billed for any damage to the room. Damage not claimed by one person will be split between all residents in the room.
- Below you will find important documents used for assessing the condition of SLU Residence Hall rooms and Apartments. Rooms and apartments will be inspected upon students' arrival for any damage caused prior to their semester in the space.
