Saint Louis University will host the third annual "Gardens to Tables Food Day" from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, at the Gardens to Tables Teaching Garden located at the corner of Compton and Rutger.
This event is made possible through the partnership of the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, the City of St. Louis Department of Health and Les Dames d'Escoffier International and promotes sustainable, healthy and just agricultural practices, as well as a healthier St. Louis community.
The event will kick off at the Medical Center Stadium Track with keynote speaker Jacki Dirksmeyer, of FEED MY PEEPS ministry at the Rock Church Soulard, discussing her role on improving the St. Louis area food system. Then the event will move to the garden where there will be several stations teaching specifically about food deserts and food access, composting and vermiculture, how to get involved with community supported agriculture, fighting childhood obesity and the process of growing and promoting healthy, sustainable and just food that uses humane agricultural practices. With each station, there will be an artisan menu item served using local products.
