Social Work, '03
Executive Director of Dispute Resolution Institute, Inc.
Edwardsville, IL
SLU solidified for me that I wanted to devote my life to public service. I have had some wonderful opportunities to put my experiences and education from SLU to use for the public good. I worked as a social worker in foster care for several years before attending law school. Currently, I'm the executive director of a nonprofit which provides free mediation services to people who could not otherwise afford it. In addition, I've served on nonprofit boards, including my current position on Illinois State CASA's board of directors. My experiences at SLU prepared me to be a leader in service to others.
There are too many to pick just one! But one of my favorite memories would have to be my time working for Residence Life. I had the opportunity to work as a Resident Advisor and then an Assistant Residence Coordinator of University Apartments. It was challenging but so rewarding. If you have worked in Res Life, you know you can handle almost anything that is thrown at you in the future.
I am most looking forward to reconnecting with friends and faculty. I'm also excited to bring my daughter to campus for the first time. I'm hopeful she'll become a Billiken one day!
We would love to hear about your SLU experience and career! Share your story with fellow classmates by completing our Alumni Spotlight form.
