Homecoming and Family Weekend 2020

While we would love to see you back on campus for Homecoming and Family Weekend 2020 this September, the global pandemic has required us to make alternate plans.

Homecoming at Home 

Join Billikens from around the world for the first-ever virtual Homecoming and Family Weekend! While the weekend will look different from our traditional in-person festivities, we are excited to celebrate and unite the SLU community with a fun-filled weekend of live virtual events, experiences, tours and activities.

Registration is now closed. Participants will be sent event access links beginning on Friday, September 25.

Friday, Sept. 25

The Tradition of Homecoming at SLU
Noon
Kick off the first-ever virtual Homecoming and Family Weekend by learning about the history and traditions of SLU’s Homecoming and how the weekend has evolved over the years.

Finding Immunity: The Race for a COVID-19 Vaccine at Saint Louis University
4 p.m.
Join SLU's expert researchers for Finding Immunity: The Race for a COVID-19 Vaccine at Saint Louis University, hosted by the SLU Research Institute and SLU’s Office of Alumni Engagement. This webinar will bring together researchers from SLU's nationally recognized Center for Vaccine Development and SLU experts in health law, geospatial science and equity to discuss the University's research, clinical trials, intellectual property and practical considerations for vaccine trials and access to an eventual vaccine for the novel coronavirus.

Garden to Table at Home
5:30 p.m.
Virtually share your love of food with SLU students and faculty from the Nutrition and Dietetics department during Garden to Table at home. Registrants will receive three recipes and students will demonstrate preparing these recipes during the event. After the demonstrations, students and faculty will discuss the recipes during a live interactive discussion.

Virtual Night at the Aquarium
6:15 p.m.
Learn about St. Louis' newest attraction, the St. Louis Aquarium at Union Station, during this exciting, virtually interactive event, cohosted by the St. Louis Aquarium Foundation and SLU's Water Institute! Explore the aquarium's space and exhibits during a tour and meet one of its biggest animal stars. Attendees will have the chance to ask biologists and conservation experts questions during the event, which will be hosted on Zoom.

Parks College Virtual Trivia Night
7 to 9 p.m.
Join Parks College alumni, faculty, staff, current students and family for an evening of friendly, virtual competition. The evening’s five rounds of trivia will be hosted and played entirely through Zoom. Topics include Parks history, SLU and St. Louis trivia. Teams may be comprised of two to six people; join as a team or opt to be assigned to a team! The winning  team will receive bragging rights and a SLU Prize Pack.

Student Virtual Paint Night
7 to 9 p.m.
Join us as a SLU student leads participants in creating a beautiful painting of an iconic SLU landmark. Student Activities Board will provide paint packs with all the supplies you need to complete your painting, including canvases, paints and brushes. The first 150 students to register will also receive a SLU chocolate from the Alumni Engagement Office. Registration for this event is open to students only and is limited to 250 participants.

Saturday, Sept. 26

Hustle for Your Health Virtual 5K
9:30 a.m.
Join fellow Billikens for a virtual race to support the Cheryl. L. Cavallo Memorial Scholarship in the SLU Program in Physical Therapy, which helps defray travel costs for students wishing to pursue health care-related domestic or international mission trips. This annual event is sponsored by the Saint Louis University Physical Therapy Student Council and hosted in memory of Cheryl Cavallo, a longtime faculty member who tirelessly coordinated this event for 11 years and who lost her courageous battle against cancer in 2013.

Interdisciplinary Science and Engineering (ISE) Building Dedication
10 a.m.
Join the Saint Louis University community for the dedication of the new Interdisciplinary Science and Engineering (ISE) Building. This new addition to SLU’s north campus opened over the summer and features innovative teaching environments and flexible lab spaces. Following the dedication, get a sneak peek of the 90,000-square-foot, three-story building and programs housed within it.

Tune in for an update from the deans about the latest news and exciting projects happening in colleges and schools across SLU.

City Foundry Sneak Peek
1 p.m.
Get a sneak peek at City Foundry and hear from Dr. Pestello, developer Steve Smith of the Lawrence Group and Brooks Goedeker of SLU’s Redevelopment Corporation about the project's impact on the SLU community and the region.

Super Smash Bros Ultimate Tournament
2 p.m.
Join SLU Varsity Esports for a Super Smash Bros Ultimate tournament for Nintendo Switch users.

Virtual Beer Tasting
5 p.m.
Join faculty from the School of Professional Studies’ Brewing Science and Operations Certificate for a virtual beer tasting. Get your beer cold, grab a glass, log in and enjoy some great beer and conversation with the professional brewers, scientists and operations professionals who make up the SLU Brewing Science and Operations faculty team. The event will kick off with a tour of Schlafly Tap Room’s historic building. From there, our faculty experts will lead the virtual tasting by color categories.

Homecoming at Home Saturday Night Celebration
7 p.m.
Join Billikens from coast to coast for the signature event of the weekend: the Homecoming at Home Saturday Night Celebration. Enjoy performances by St. Louis's own Justin Willman from the Netflix series Magic for Humans, Sam Harris from the X-Ambassadors and other special guests! And Homecoming and Family Weekend wouldn't be complete without a soccer game of sorts – tune in to see the Billiken take on Fredbird in a unique matchup between St. Louis' best-known mascots.

Sunday, Sept. 27

School of Education Special Lecture: Teaching for Equity in the Midst of a Pandemic

The School of Education is pleased to present a special virtual Homecoming version of its Luncheon Speaker Series. The one-hour session will feature Melissa Grandel, 2020 Missouri Teacher of the Year, along with a panel of School of Education and local educators.
