The Department of Chemistry at Saint Louis University offers you the opportunity to not only earn a degree but also pursue research projects, use specialized equipment and get involved on campus.
The degrees pave the way for you to work in agriculture, pharmaceuticals, chemical agencies, the government, or further your education. Our undergraduate degrees also set the groundwork for graduates to go on to professional schools of medicine, dentistry, veterinary or law. All bachelor of science degrees in the chemistry department have received continuous certification by the American Chemical Society since 1946.
As a chemistry major, you will have the opportunity to get involved in research projects under the close mentorship of a full-time faculty member. Students in the graduate program work closely with our faculty on research projects in the areas of synthesis and materials chemistry, and chemical analysis and physical characterization.
You will use a variety of specialized equipment and computers in instructional and research laboratories. Some undergraduate students will work as laboratory assistants.
Beyond experience in the classroom and labs, our students network and prepare for the careers in chemistry through the Chemistry Club, a student affiliate group of the American Chemical Society. The club sponsors events throughout the year, including tours of local industries, guest speakers and activities in the community during National Chemistry Week.
Saint Louis University’s Department of Chemistry offers a variety of degrees at multiple academic levels, each of which combines classroom instruction with laboratory research.
