Studying psychology at Saint Louis University isn't just about learning what makes people tick - it's learning to use that awareness to change lives.
The Department of Psychology operates two centers that give students opportunities to put their knowledge to use while providing valuable services to the St. Louis community. The department encourages students and faculty at every level to experiment and innovate, finding ways to share their knowledge through publishing, professional organizations and more.
The Center for the Application of Behavioral Sciences (CABS) works with organizations to understand human resource and organizational effectiveness issues that impact their organization's success. The center is affiliated with the industrial-organizational program in the Department of Psychology.
Research teams are composed of faculty and graduate students. Faculty in the industrial-organizational psychology program direct applied research projects with graduate students serving as research assistants to organizations. Students are able to put their skills in research methods, statistics and industrial-organizational psychology to work by assisting organizations in developing solutions to their organizational issues.
Our team uses surveys, interviews, focus groups, records analysis and systematic observation to provide valuable insights for organizations. We systematically collect and analyze important information about human resource issues and the effectiveness of organizational functioning. Using this data-driven process we co-design effective business solutions to improve organizational functioning.
We have proven results and an extensive client list including Ameren, Drury Hotels and Energizer.
Our extensive experience conducting organizational assessments and leading organizational development allows us to find the service that’s right for any small or medium business. Our affordable services utilize the intellectual capital and advanced technologies of Saint Louis University.

The Psychological Services Center at Saint Louis University is an outpatient mental health center operated by SLU's Department of Psychology. Founded in the Jesuit tradition of service and compassion to others, we provide quality, professional and affordable psychological services to the community.
Counseling, psychotherapy and psychological assessment are provided by doctoral students in clinical psychology under the supervision of licensed clinical psychology faculty. Clients include children, adolescents, adults, the elderly, couples and families.
We use the latest knowledge on effective assessment practices and treatment interventions to provide these services. In addition, when you choose the Psychological Services Center, you benefit from the enrichment of a team-based treatment approach where your clinician receives intensive supervisory input.
We provide psychological evaluations for a variety of cognitive, educational, emotional and behavioral difficulties for both children and adults. Some of the types of evaluations we provide include:
Psychological evaluations provide a structured, organized, and succinct description of an individual's current psychological functioning, including cognitive, behavioral, and emotional strengths and challenges. The evaluation includes a written report with recommendations for improvement or accommodations, where appropriate. We also provide verbal feedback about the results so you have the opportunity to ask questions.
Evaluations are tailored to the individual, but in general the process includes the following:
We may ask you to fill out forms ahead of time and/or bring school or medical records to the appointment.
The Psychological Services Center charges on a sliding fee scale based on gross household annual income and the type of evaluation you are seeking. Fees for assessments vary according to the amount of time and expertise the assessment requires. We require a $50 retainer for all assessments before we set an appointment. Fees are provided during the intake before you begin the assessment.
The Psychological Services Center is not eligible for Medicaid or Medicare. We do not bill for insurance but are happy to provide you a receipt to submit to your insurance carrier.
To schedule an appointment, please call 314-977-2278. The receptionist will ask you for your contact information and then one of our intake staff, a graduate trainee, will call you for a 20-30 minute telephone interview. The purpose of the interview is to identify the services you need and match you with a clinician who is best suited to provide those services. If we are not able to provide the services you need, we will give you the name(s) of other providers. After the phone interview, you are assigned to a clinician who will call you to set an appointment. All requests for services are handled confidentially.
We aim to contact you for the telephone interview within 24 hours after you have spoken with the receptionist and within a week after the intake to set an appointment. If you need specialized treatment or assessment (e.g., child, trauma, eating disorders), it can sometimes take longer since the clinician might not be immediately available.
