Offered by the Saint Louis University College of Arts and Sciences
At Saint Louis University, you can get either a Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry. No matter which track you choose, you'll have ample opportunity to pursue research projects under the close mentorship of a full-time faculty member and to use specialized equipment and computers.
How to choose between the two majors? If you are in the pre-professional health studies program, pre-law or are interested in a double major, the chemistry B.A. might be for you. If you want to go on graduate studies in chemistry or biochemistry, or want to work directly for a chemical company, choose the chemistry B.S.
Both the B.A. and B.S. chemistry degrees at SLU offer a solid foundation in general chemistry, organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, analytical chemistry, physical chemistry, calculus and engineering physics.
Depending on your track, you might also explore mathematical techniques in chemistry, chemistry literature and advanced classes in the topics above. You will also complete a senior residency in chemistry.
SLU graduates with a degree in chemistry are prepared to pursue careers in:
Other graduates go on to law school and specialize in patent law or environmental law. The public health sector also provides many career opportunities for chemists.
